Best known from myrrh from Biblical stories Myrrh is a reddish-brown dried sap from a thorny tree, called Commiphora myrrha . Natively in West Africa and South Asia. A steam distillation process is used to extract myrrh essential oil, which is amber to brown in color and has an earthy scent. Myrrh Essential Oil is thought to enhance spirituality. Aromatherapists use it as an aid in meditation or before healing. Myrrh has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine. Scientists are using the oil for treating pain, infections, and skin sores but also to kill or slow growth of cancer cells.
